National Railway Museum
York has been a major railway centre since the beginning of the railway age. The NRM is the largest railway museum in the world and contains a collection of locomotives, rolling stock and railway equipment. The museum is free.

York City Walls
York's centre is enclosed by the city's medieval walls. The entire circuit (including parts where walls never existed) is about 3 miles.
